Red Feather Development Group

Red Feather is a non-profit group working to improve the standard of living on
American Indian reservations. In addition to building desperately needed homes within
reservation communities, they also educate on straw bale building methods and empower tribal members to create long-term, sustainable housing solutions.

Josephine and Larry Fast Wolf of Red Shirt, South Dakota are Oglala elders who
have raised 24 foster children in their two-bedroom HUD rental home. In the summer of 2000,
they were the proud recipients of a beautiful, sustainable, single-family straw bale home,
built by Red Feather volunteers, University of Washington architecture students,
and members of the Oglala tribe.
